The Townhouse Hotel and Restaurant in Melrose has provided us with some of our most faultless dining experiences in the Scottish Borders. The building itself is handsome, enjoying a prominent position on Melrose high street, and the interior is one of the most modern, but tasteful in the Borders.
We have eaten there on few occassions and have yet to be disappointed by the standard of the food, which is not overly ambitious, but is executed to a consistently high standard.
I enjoyed an assiette of fish followed by roast breast of duck (served with Dauphinoise Potatoes - my favorite). On another occasion my partner enjoyed a simple lunch of a toasted filled ciabatta.
The pretty town of Melrose is a good place to bring visitors to the Borders and the townhouse is one of the ideal place to treat them to a meal out.
